Growth Continues at Sun Peaks

There is no question that purchasing a resort property is a smart investment when it’s clear there is continued growth and energy at the destination.

On the heels of the opening of the Orient Express, Sun Peaks Resort has announced plans to replace and realign the Crystal chairlift. The new Doppelymayr fixed grip quad will increase uphill capacity by 20 per cent. In addition, the speedier lift will take you right to the Top of the World, providing easier access to terrain at a slightly higher elevation than the current top terminal.

What does this really mean?

Here are just a few of the things we’re most excited about:

  • You’ll no longer have to sit huddled together for warmth (unless you want to!) during a slow crawl across the open Crystal bowl — the pace of the ride is increasing!
  • It will be a simple ski down to the base of the West-Bowl T-bar, rather than a skate, push, slog to find a downhill grade to the west bowl.
  • You can hit up the 5 Mile from the very, very Top of the World and cruise back down in one epic run for a bowl of hot soup at Bottoms Bar and Grill.
  • You could technically fit in 20 per cent more runs during the morning before the powder is tracked out and then ski right to the door of your house for a leisurely afternoon in the hot tub.

Timeline

Construction crews are starting immediately and the new lift will be installed during Summer 2020 and ready to roll for Winter 2020/21. This replacement of the 40-year old chairlift is another $5 million investment into the destination resort.

“As more people continue to discover the Sun Peaks experience, we need to invest in moving additional guests around the mountain effectively and efficiently, says Darcy Alexander, Vice President and General Manager of Sun Peaks Resort. “This new lift and alignment will provide many options both now and in the future as we continue striving to deliver the finest mountain resort experience.”
