Australians invest in Sun Peaks

The Australian invasion is in full swing at Sun Peaks Resort as more and more guests arrive from Down Under for multi-week long stay vacations or to settle in for the entire winter in their investment property.

In 2018, close to 350,000 Australians visited Canada and, according to Destination BC, those travellers in the “dream-to-purchase stages and indicating they are definitely/very likely to visit Canada in the next two years” are most interested in BC (69%).

Sun Peaks is a prime choice for those visitors seeking their home-away-from-home. Ski-in/ski-out access, hot tubs at almost every property, fine dining options, wine festivals, non-ski activities…the list goes on.

And then there’s the skiing. Nestled in the Thompson-Okanagan region, Sun Peaks is known for excellent snow coverage and fluffy, deep powder. The verticals are long (up to 8 km!), the terrain is varied (17 gladed areas and 2 alpine bowls) and you never have to wait in a lift line. It’s no wonder the Australians take over every winter.

Australia Day is January 26

The influx of Australians at Sun Peaks is so significant that Australia Day (Jan. 26) has become a big day on the mountain!

Looking to celebrate with some fellow Aussies? Start on the 25th at Masa’s with their Australia Day Party and then head to the Party in the Park slopestyle event in the Intermediate Terrain Park on January 26.
