There is a lot of overwhelming information circulating the air waves right now, but one thing that has been made absolutely clear — outdoor activities are the safest option for you and your family.
Isn’t it convenient then, that Sun Peaks is filled to the brim with outdoor adventures and wide-open spaces for you and your family to explore? We’ve compiled a couple of our favourite outdoor summer activities that will help your family dust off the isolation cobwebs and bring some colour and energy back into your days.
Golf. The back nine of the Sun Peaks golf course is known for being long and wide – no crowding here! The 18-hole part 72 Graham Cooke course is nestled in between the three mountains of Sun Peaks. Don’t forget to pause for a minute on hole 16, to take in the view. The highest tee box in the province, you’ll feel the power as you drive the green.
Discover McGillivray Lake. If you really want to leave the crowds behind, a trip out to McGillivray Lake might be in order. While you could drive, we encourage you to leave the car in the village and either hike or cross-country bike to the lake! This is a great option for enjoying summer while socially distancing and it doesn’t have to cost you a penny! Pack a picnic to eat by the lake or rent a canoe or kayak if you’re interested in getting on the water for a peaceful paddle.
Those are just some of the many options available! And, if you’re ready for a bit more energy, check out the BC Day Celebrations taking place August 1-3. The village will be set up with free family-friendly activities, from stunt shows to magic, a fire truck display and more. The highlight of the weekend is bound to be Circuswest*!
No matter what activity you choose, just enjoy being one with nature, and keep an eye out for wildlife who are actively settled into summer in the mountains. And we highly encourage you to increase the social distancing between you and the animals beyond two metres.

*COVID-19 safety information will be posted around the village. There will be a limited capacity of 50 people for each showtime.
